Entrepreneurial Journal
Entry 8, Week 7
This week the theme was Overcoming Challenges. We read “Looking back and moving Forward” by
Thomas S. Monson April 2008. “However
Long and Hard the Road” by Elder Jeffry and Patricia Holland. We watched a
video also of Elder Holland entitled “Good Things to Come.” We watched the
E-Corner Videos: Eric Ries, “The Five Whys”, “Entrepreneurial Hero” by Heath Bradley, and “You Can Do Anything”
by Tyler Richards. We continued our reading of “The Dip” by Godin and “So You
Want To Be an Entrepreneur” focusing on Mentor session 4.
The last two weeks have been extremely challenging for me in
life. This address was the conference address after the passing of President
Hinkley and President Monson became the next prophet. I am thankful particularly today for
President Monson’s testimony that “Each of us can feel the Lord’s inspiration
as we live worthily and strive to serve him.”
Phillipians 4:8 has been repeated to me from numerous sources. “Finally bretheren, whatsoever things are
true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good
report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these
things. “
President Monson reminds us to be kind and respectful to all
people, those who differ from us in any or all ways as well as to our
families. He teaches us “Our homes are
more than sanctuaries. They should be
places where God’s spirit can dwell, where the storm stops at the door. Where
love reigns and peace dwells. “
Those storms will rage as we pass through this mortal life,
as we are tested and prove ourselves worthy We will be blessed with comfort and
inspired guidance as we try to live according to His will.
President and Sister Holland spoke specifically about
marriage and love, but the principles they teach apply more than to just those
topics and areas of life. I Loved the
quote “Excellence does not come easily or quickly. Nothing very valuable can come without
significant sacrifice and effort and patience on our part.” He shares Doctrine and Covenants 64:33-34
“Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a
great work. And out of small thinks proceed that which is great. Behold, the
Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind, the willing and obedient shall eat
the good of the land of Zion in these last days.”
“Where there is no vision, the people perish (Proverbs
29:18)”He asks “How do you get this glimpse of the future that helps you to
hang on?” He answers by sharing Joseph Smith’s experience with the Angel
Moroni, who came three times repeating exactly as the times before.
He quotes Joel 2:28-29 “I will pour out my spirit upon all
flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream
dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also upon the servants and upon
the handmaids of those days will I pour out my spirit.”
He teaches that “through the Holy Ghost the heavens were
opened to their view and helped them get through the most difficult times.” “It
will take Determination and Perseverence and D&C 81:5 and 1 Corinthians
3:16.
